Members,

The Men’s Club conducts at least one tournament per month. The majority of the tournaments are “Chiefs” tournaments and the others are a 5-Club, the 2-Man Best Ball SCGA Qualifier and Club Championship. The Chiefs Tournament is an individual low net tournament usually split into flights. Each month’s winner of the Chiefs qualifies to play in the Super Chiefs tournament (tournament of Chief’s champions) at the end of our Golf fiscal year (September).

Mission Trails Men’s Golf Club!

October 2024

Local Rules,

Rules Sheet – Mission Trails Men’s Golf Club

1.  Distance measuring devices which measure distance ONLY are permitted.

2.  The inside edge of the fence posts at ground level along the left side of hole #1 is the out of bounds line.

3.  All concrete drainage ditches are lateral penalty areas, (however the bridges over them are part of the cart path, not the hazard).

4.  If not staked or marked with red lines, the concrete edge defines the hazard line.

5.  If your ball is NOT in the hazard, but the concrete interferes with either stance or lie, you may take relief with no penalty.  Remember, hazard lines are within the hazard, so if your ball is touching the concrete it is in the hazard.

6.  The maintenance road bordering the left side of hole #8 and the maintenance road connecting #8 surfaced cart path to hole #10 surfaced cart path are deemed Obstructions and you may take relief without penalty.

7.  Stones in the bunkers are moveable obstructions and may be removed without penalty.

8.  If your ball strikes a power/telephone line, pole or support/guide wire which is in bounds, you MUST rehit from the same spot with no penalty.  (Holes 13 &14 being the most frequent cases…)

9.  On hole #17, if your ball is in the hazard, you may either follow the usual procedure for relief or use the Drop Area in front of the Forward Tee Box.  Both, of course, incur a one stroke penalty.  If your tee ball is hit out-of-bounds to the right, or long you may also either follow the usual stroke and distance procedure and rehit from the tee box or advance to the drop zone.

*10.  On hole 13, if your tee ball is lost right or left on the hole before the wires, you must drop at the first drop area; incur a one stroke penalty.

Current rules and policies applied that may change in the future.

11.  Lift, Clean and Place – If your ball finds a poor lie in the fairway (dirt patch, large piece of crab grass, etc…) you may follow the lift, clean and place procedure; In FAIRWAYS ONLY.  This does NOT include a divot.  One club length.  You must consult with your group

12.  Bunkers – Currently, there are rakes, so no adjustments can be made.

13. On hole 11, if your ball goes into the Oleanders right of the cart path, where the corner property with the small wooden fence, this is a free drop. Ask Tim Caton or any board member if you need guidance.

After our Two-Man Qualifier, the winning teams will have the option to play at one of the following courses in an effort to advance to the Championship round.

Penalty Area Changes on holes 13 and 17

To make an effort to speed up play, the board has implemented a few new rules that we think will speed play up on a couple of the harder holes that consistently slow play down.

This includes looking for lost balls, confusion over where to drop and play a shot from, going back to the tee to re-hit a shot, etc…

Hole 13:

We have changed the OB on the left of the hole to a Red Lateral Penalty area.  Previously it was White. Now, the marking of the left of 12 and 13 fairways are consistent.

We have added a drop area approximately 170 yards from the green that will be used anytime a ball is lost to the left, or to the right on the hole.

So, for instance:

If you hit your drive to the right, down in the ditch, and it’s unplayable, or if you can’t find your ball off to the right, instead of dropping it down by the creek, you will now just proceed to the designated drop area and play your third shot.  (1 stroke penalty)

*** The mandatory re-tee if you hit the wires on your drive is still the rule.

Hole 17

The entire hole is marked RED now.

If you hit your ball out to the left side of the ditch, or short of the landing area, way right, or over the green long…. proceed to the drop area, or re-Tee.

Our goal is to speed up play, make the rules easier to follow, and as always, make the game as enjoyable as possible.

Thanks!
