2024 President’s Cup

Format:

If you haven’t played in the President’s Cup previously, it’s a really fun tournament and a great way to get to know other members.  The format is match-play.  If you would like, you can play your match during a Chief’s Tournament (just make sure you putt all balls into the hole for the Chief’s Tournament purposes).

The day you play your match, check your handicap to see what your course handicap is.  You can do this easily by using the USGA GHIN App.  After downloading the app, go to “handicap calculator”, type in the course you are playing, the tees you are playing.  You can add your opponent by selecting “add golfers” and then search by name or GHIN number for your opponent.  Make sure each of you have the same tee selected.  Once you have your course handicap, you subtract the lower handicap of the two golfers from the higher to get how many strokes you will receive.  Mark your scorecard with the appropriate number of strokes the higher handicap golfer will receive.

Ex:  Bryan Spiffen plays at a 12 course handicap while playing from the blue tees.  Jim  Clarkson plays at an 18 course handicap from the blue tees.  Jim will receive 6 strokes on the 6 lowest ranked handicap holes.  If you are confused, don’t worry, most of the golfers who signed up have previously played in the President’s Cup and can help you along.  Don’t hesitate to shoot me an email if you have any questions.  Please help those golfers who are new to match play.

Bracket Selection:

I put all entrants’ names in a hat and picked names, one at a time, until all were picked and paired up.  As always, if circumstances come up and a match is delayed a reasonable amount of time, that’s fine, but try and finish matches by the deadlines set for each round.

Please make an effort to play your matches at Mission Trails.  You are not required to, but if either player would prefer to play at Mission Trails, then the match will be played at Trails.

You must play the same set of tees.  If someone who normally plays the blue tees, is playing someone who normally plays the white tees, and an agreement can’t be made, players will play from the white tees.

The Championship and Consolation Matches must be played at Mission Trails.

Because of the odd number of entrants, there are seven “play in” matches, so to speak, to start the event off.  Names were picked out of a hat and randomly selected.  If one of the following members who had to win their play in a match wins the President’s Cup, they will receive an extra $20 and one sleeve of Pro-V1 golf balls with “Mission Trails Men’s Club” on them.

Entry fee is $30 per player

I have Venmo, @Terence-Furey or you can also drop your payment in the Men’s Club MailBox in the bar area.  If you have any questions about the rules, strokes received, dates, etc… shoot me an email or text.
